Flower vs pre-rolls.
A pre-roll is flower already ground and rolled. You pay a little more per gram for the work and lose the ability to inspect what is inside. Loose flower is cheaper per gram and lets you see exactly what you bought. Cannalab47 lists 1119 and 1198 respectively.
The same plant, sold two ways, at two prices. What the premium buys and what it costs you.
| Loose flower | Pre-roll | Notes | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price per gram | Lower | Higher | You are paying for labour |
| Can you inspect it? | Yes, before and after buying | No, once it is rolled | The main reason to prefer flower |
| Convenience | Needs grinding and rolling | Ready immediately | The main reason to prefer pre-rolls |
| Portion control | You decide | Fixed by the roll | Halves store poorly |
| Shelf life once opened | Good in a sealed jar | Shorter once unwrapped | Both dislike heat and light |
| Infused options | No | Yes — often with concentrate added | Infused pre-rolls are considerably stronger |
So which should you actually buy?
- Buy loose flower if you want the best price per gram, want to see what you bought, or want to control how much you use at a time.
- Buy pre-rolls if you value the convenience, want a fixed portion, or want to try several varieties without buying an eighth of each.
- Buy shake if price is the priority above everything else — it is the same plant, in smaller pieces, for less.
Is pre-roll flower lower quality?
Historically that was the reputation, because pre-rolls were where trim and shake went. It is much less reliably true now, but you still cannot see what is inside one. The check that settles it is the certificate: every batch we sell publishes its full panel whether it is loose or rolled, so you can compare the measurements rather than the reputation.
What is an infused pre-roll?
A pre-roll with concentrate added — kief, distillate, resin or rosin. They are meaningfully stronger than the flower alone, sometimes dramatically so, and the potency figure on the pack reflects the whole thing. Treat one as a different product rather than a stronger version of the same one, and see the dosing guide first.
Questions people actually ask
Are pre-rolls worth the extra money?
It depends on what you are buying. You pay more per gram for grinding and rolling, and you cannot inspect what is inside. If convenience or a fixed portion matters to you, that premium is reasonable; if price per gram is the priority, loose flower wins.
Do pre-rolls use lower-quality flower?
They used to, as a rule. It is much less reliably true now, but you still cannot see inside one, so the certificate is the check that matters. Every batch we sell publishes a full 47-analysis panel whether it is loose or already rolled.
What is an infused pre-roll?
A pre-roll with concentrate added — kief, distillate, resin or rosin. They are considerably stronger than the flower alone. The potency printed on the pack covers the whole thing, so treat one as a different product rather than a stronger version of the same.
How should I store either one?
Cool, dark and sealed. A cupboard beats a fridge, and both dislike heat and light more than they dislike time. Kept properly, flower holds its aroma for six to twelve months; an unwrapped pre-roll dries out faster than that.
